Alleged exploitation at a Ramadan bazaar

An Instagram page has since called on the authorities to review the video and take firm action. In the footage, the woman can be heard admitting to the individual, believed to be a vendor, that the elderly woman is indeed her mother.

“Our hearts ache seeing young people sending elderly parents out to beg in the scorching heat, and then hearing them admit they’re the child of the person they’re exploiting,” the post read.

Organisers urged to intervene

Emphasising that they did not want to interfere in others’ business, the page owners added that they could not bear to see elderly individuals being used in places where people are trying to earn an honest living.

“Is it right for a child to send their mother to a Ramadan bazaar to beg? Or is it even allowed for a child to send an elderly parent to beg at a Ramadan bazaar?

“We hope the authorities who see this video will take strong action against anyone involved in potential human trafficking syndicates.”

The social media account also expressed hope that the Ramadan bazaar organisers would monitor the situation and take strict measures to prevent this kind of issue from spreading further.

Speaking to WORLD OF BUZZ, the Instagram page revealed that the incident took place at a bazaar in Ipoh, Perak, adding that there have been no updates so far on any action taken against the woman involved.

They also shared some advice, saying:

“If you witness something like this, don’t just stay silent. Reach out to the authorities or the bazaar organisers to take action. If we see it and turn a blind eye, these syndicates could continue operating unchecked. It’s unimaginable for a child to send their healthy mother out to beg in the scorching heat.”
