A Malaysian took to her Threads account to call out a hotel in Kota Kinabalu for allegedly only displaying signages in Korean and Mandarin.

The Malaysian wrote, “What is happening with Sabah, my homeland. Let’s not even talk about Bahasa Melayu, they didn’t even display in English. As a local, this is saddening. We were trying to find the pool at this hotel, and were left in the dark while searching for hotel staff to ask.”

She went on to explain how she ended up taking a longer path to the hotel’s swimming pool when there was a much more convenient way there.

“If (the signages) were in BM or English, we’d understand lah.”

However, the hotel quickly decided to clear the air.

The hotel in question, Promenade Hotels & Resort, took to their Facebook page to point out how there was an English signage located near the Korean and Chinese signage, contradicting what the Malaysian said.

They wrote, “As a home-grown brand with close ties to local and international visitors, we’ve always endeavoured to ensure that our directional signages encompassed the most common languages.”

“On a recent social media posting, we were surprised that our Chinese and Korean language signage was highlighted negatively despite the English version being posted opposite it. However, to curtail any further misunderstanding, we have combined the 2 signages into one for ease of reference.”
