A 48-year-old man from Kuala Lumpur was detained at Chennai International Airport yesterday (3 August) after he tried to smuggle diamonds amounting to RM1.34 million into India.
The man was stopped by the officials of India’s Air Intelligence Unit (IAIU), and they found many packets of diamonds in his luggage. As reported by MalayMail, the officials took action after they were tipped off by their informer on information about precious stones being smuggled from Malaysia.
Apart from the eight packets found in his luggage, they also found two white packages in his inner wear too. All ten packets contained a total of 55 mini white Ziplock pouches containing the smuggled diamonds inside.
The authorities were informed by the man that he was supposed to pass the diamonds to a buyer outside the airport. However, when the police then set up a trap outside, nobody came to pick up the delivery.
Don’t ever think of becoming a mule for illegal items folks. At the end of the day, the big guys upstairs don’t get hurt, only the person with his underwear stuffed with diamonds (that’s you).
