A 24-year-old Malaysian woman was recently arrested after she falsely claimed to have been kidnapped when she was merely spending the night at a friend’s house.

The Mersing District Police Headquarters took to its Facebook page to share further details about this incident.

In their statement, they confirmed that they received a report on the kidnapping incident after the woman had told her family that she had been kidnapped on August 22 (Thursday) at the Endau area in Johor, by an unknown individual.

Through information from the public, the police found the woman on Friday (August 23) in Rompin, Pahang.

It was then discovered that the woman had lied to her family about being kidnapped so that she could spend the night at her friend’s house in Rompin.

A urine test conducted on the woman also showed that she was positive for methamphetamines.

She, along with the 2 friends she was with, a 16-year-old boy and a 24-year-old man, were arrested and remanded for 3 days.

The police have since advised the general public not to provide civil servants with false information as it is a crime under Section 182 of the Penal Code.
