One of the things that Malaysians look forward to every year, is supporting the beauty queen representing our country in internationally-acclaimed beauty pageants.
Sadly, this year, Malaysians will not have that opportunity.
The Miss Universe Malaysia Organisation took to their official Facebook page to announce that the country will not be participating in Miss Universe 2021, as it is being held in Israel. They added that the reason is due to the worsening Covid-19 numbers which have resulted in limited international and domestic travel.
“We note the Miss Universe Organisation’s decision to hold the 70th anniversary of the pageant in Eilat, Israel in December 2021. Unfortunately, due to the worsening Covid-19 situation, which has resulted in limited international and domestic travel, we will be unable to hold our local Miss Universe Malaysia 2021 pageant,”
“We have therefore declined the invitation to this year’s pageant and regretfully would not be able to hold a local Miss Universe Malaysia pageant this year,” they wrote.
They also wished the participating delegates good luck while adding that they look forward to returning to participating in the years to come.
This comes following the tension between Malaysians and Israelis, which started during the Israel-Palestine conflict and escalated during the recent Olympics.
