A 55-year-old woman was tragically killed in a road accident after the motorcycle she was riding collided with a car door that suddenly swung open.

According to Kwong Wah, the incident caused the woman (who was riding pillion) to fall onto the road, resulting in a fatal accident around 12:20 PM today (June 17) near the traffic light intersection at Jalan Ipoh, Kuala Lumpur.

She was later hit by a passing lorry

Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief, Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zamzuri, revealed that at the time of the incident, the deceased and her 20-year-old son were travelling from Jalan Ipoh toward Kepong.

“As they reached the location, the driver of a Toyota Vios, who was parked on the left side of the road, suddenly opened the car door. The son had no time to react and crashed into it,” he said.

He added that the impact threw the woman into the right lane, where she was tragically run over by a passing lorry.

Her son suffered minor injuries

Zamzuri said both victims were rushed to Kuala Lumpur General Hospital for emergency treatment. However, the woman succumbed to her injuries, while her son sustained minor injuries to his hands and feet.

He added that the 30-year-old lorry driver was unharmed.

The case is now being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by dangerous driving.
