The weather has been so hot and humid these days due to the heatwave and according to Deputy Health Minister Lukanisman Awang Sauni, there were a total of 14 cases of heatstroke recorded up till now.
“Until yesterday, there have been 14 cases but the situation is still under control and can be accommodated in health facilities nationwide.”
It is said that 6 cases were reported in Kelantan, 5 in Sarawak and 3 in Sabah up until 12 May. Out of these cases, 7 of the victims are adults, reported BERNAMA.
13 of the victims recovered but one: an 11-year-old boy who passed away due to heat stroke.
The Deputy elaborated by saying that MOH expects the number of heatstroke victims to increase as this hot weather will likely continue until August.
Hence, to prepare the citizens, they are collaborating with other ministries and agencies such as the Communications and Digital Ministry (KKD) to spread information via television and social media.
The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) also identified hotspots so that they can prepare adequate health facilities.
“Currently, the situation is under control, and MoH facilities and hospitals are prepared to receive all cases such as heatstroke victims and those suffering from heat cramps,” he said.
The Deputy Minister had asked for parents to not be overly anxious, however, they need to take proper precautions such as ensuring their child(ren) have a sufficient supply of drinking water when in school and making sure that they do not exercise excessively.
Paddy planters, farmers and gardeners should take precautions as well.
