Students who are found to have committed repeated offences of smoking vapes or electronic cigarettes in school can be suspended for 14 days or expelled from school completely.
According to a report by Berita Harian, Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek shared that this disciplinary action is to show the strictness of the Ministry of Education (KPM) in curbing the issue of vaping in schools.
She further explained that this action will be taken after a warning is given to the students involved, and their parents are called to attend a consultation session.

“There should be a warning and (the students) will be called along with their parents for a consultation. Then, they have to complete a form to promise they will not commit the offence again,”
“Then, if they still disobey and repeat the act, they can be suspended from school for 14 days that do not include examinations, and our strictness is to the point where they can also be expelled from school. We consider the act of getting involved in this vaping phenomenon to be a very serious one,” she said.
Several preventive education programs & activities will be implemented
Fadhlina went on to share her belief that the Drug Prevention Education (PPDa) program will be the most effective in controlling the spread of vaping.

The program, which will be implemented through the curriculum, co-curricular and student character development activities, will expose students to the dangers of vaping and train them to become character ambassadors for their peers.
The Ministry of Education will also implement several other preventive education programs and activities, such as the Anti-Drug Badge Scheme Program, the Five-Minute Anti-Smoking and Vape Program, and the Junior Anti-Drug Squad through the PPDa Club and the Healthy Living Campaign to Prevent Smoking and Vape.
“All these programs and activities aim to instil the value of awareness and understanding of students about the dangers of electronic cigarettes, and to (help students) form a strong identity,” she added.
