According to the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) Secretary-General Dato’ Lokman Hakim Ali, in his letter to EUROCHAM Malaysia, the Ministry of Health is currently mulling over a possibility of a complete shutdown of the economy.
According to the letter, which was shared on Twitter, “The Ministry of Health (MOH) has made a clear stand on the matter of a complete shutdown of the economy.”
“With 99 Covid-19 clusters related to manufacturing out of more than 300 throughout the country, MOH believes that manufacturing is the main source of infections.”
“Should the infection rate not decrease, the Malaysian government will announce a shutdown/strict lockdown with immediate effect after 4 February 2021.”
In the tweet, @IzwanAzirSaleh writes, “It seems that the media is playing the issue that the government may impose a total lockdown of the country if cases continue to rise.”
“Are we ready for a total lockdown, perhaps a Movement Control Order (MCO) 3.0?”
Commenting on the tweet, several netizens agreed that a total lockdown is necessary to flatten the curve.
“Truthfully, we’ve already expected this to happen if cases continue to skyrocket. Drastic action is needed. We have to be prepared.”
