For those who live in KL and its surrounding areas, tall buildings are everywhere and we even have the 2nd tallest building in the world, the Merdeka 118.
Be it as it may, many have debated about tall buildings being useless and an eyesore.
Just recently, the Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Shah has said:
“Towering skyscrapers do not give meaning if there are still people trapped in poverty, struggling to secure basic necessities like food and shelter.”
In addition, His Royal Highness mentions that eradicating poverty remains a priority as it is crucial to guarantee the social well-being of the people, reports BERNAMA.
“Addressing poverty stands as a central pillar of our government’s Pelan Perak Sejahtera 2030 to ensure the equitable distribution of the state’s wealth for the benefit of all people.”
Sultan Nazrin adds, “This includes efforts to enhance overall quality of life, establish robust social safety nets, and provide quality healthcare services.”
Be it as it may, eradicating poverty is the main goal but there are many steps leading to this goal, the Sultan says at the opening of the second meeting of the 15th Perak State Legislative Assembly. One of them is to ensure that the people prioritise education.
“Education plays a crucial role in reshaping the poverty landscape by lifting people out of the cycle of poverty and improving their quality of life,” says His Royal Highness.
Even though the education policy is under the federal government, the state government can still offer incentives to ensure high attendance rates in schools.
It is also said that the total number of hardcore poverty households reduced by 58% from 9,402 households in January 2023 to 3,911 on 31 December 2023. Sultan Nazrin says that this decline is caused by various factors but part of it is how dedicated the district administrations and all relevant agencies were.
