Ahead of National Day on August 31, the Penang Island City Council (MBPP) earned praise from Malaysians with its initiative to replace worn-out Jalur Gemilang flags across the state.
As part of this effort, the council has rolled out ‘Ops Negaraku’ to ensure the national flag continues to fly proudly at premises throughout the city.

“The Jalur Gemilang deserves to be cared for”
In a Facebook post, MBPP shared that its enforcement team had taken the opportunity to replace torn and worn-out flags with new ones during the operation.
They also fixed upside-down flags that had been blown by the wind and reminded premise owners about the importance of showing respect to the national flag.
“The Jalur Gemilang is not just a piece of cloth but a symbol of our unity as Malaysians. It deserves to be cared for, respected, and flown with pride,” they wrote.

MBPP has also called on the public to spark the spirit of patriotism by raising the flag at their premises.
“What matters most is the sincerity in showing our love for the country. Let’s celebrate this National Month with the Jalur Gemilang flying proudly, fresh, and vibrant in every corner of Penang,” the council said
