Rejoice, parents and children! Starting from next year (2019) onwards, all students are not required to wear white shoes to school anymore! For anyone who has been through Malaysia’s education system, you will definitely remember those white school shoes that were notoriously hard to keep clean. Who thought it would be a good idea to let boisterous kids wear white shoes?
According to Astro Awani, Education Minister Dr Maszlee Malik has recently announced that all students do not need to wear those dreaded white shoes anymore. We can already hear those cheers from parents! He made this announcement in a Bicara Minda seminar organised by Sinar Harian today (July 19).
“Many parents have been complaining to me and asking that the rule that students have to wear white shoes be abolished. Alright, then starting from next year, students will wear black shoes and not white anymore,” Dr Maszlee said.
In addition, he said that the Education Ministry is committed to reducing the weight of students’ school bags as there have been many complaints in the past about the ever-increasing burden. He also said he wants to ensure that Malaysian students are acknowledged as world-class students.
“I met with the Finland ambassador recently and I was told about the education system there. Apparently, Finnish students are able to master at least four languages. Now, I am determined to ensure that Malaysian students can master at least three languages within these five years,” he added.
Okay, make sure that you don’t buy the wrong shoes for your kids next year!
