There is the saying that sleep is the cousin of death.
This saying rang true for a 56-year-old man who passed away in his sleep in a coffee shop in Ang Mo Kio, Singapore. The incident took place on March 26, 2017 between 1PM to 5.40PM, Straits Time reported.
The man, whose nickname is Gou Di (Dog Brother), arrived at the Ang Mo Kio Avenue 3 coffee shop at about 1PM. The middle aged man was a regular at the coffee shop and several people knew him.
Gou Di told other regulars of the kopitiam that he would be taking medication that would make him sleepy. So, he was going to take a nap.
At about 4PM, Gou Di’s friend, Goh arrived at the same kopitiam and sat next to him for quite a long while.
The man told the press,
“I thought he was sleeping and did not want to disturb him, so I sat by his side for an hour without calling out to him before buying my meal at about 5PM and going home.”
Even Goh felt nothing was amiss as he sat there for an hour or so and left without realising his friend had passed away.
“I did not expect to learn of his death just a short while later.”
Finally, one of the coffee shop attendant noticed that Gou Di had not moved his head for a few hours. When the person noticed Gou Di’s pale complexion, he immediately called the emergency hotline.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force got the call at about 5.37PM and sent an ambulance. Gou Di was unfortunately already gone when the paramedics arrived.
Police are still investigating the case.
Indeed it was quite the shocking story of a death as there were so many people around and yet he passed away just like that.
