Everyone knows that bribes are common, but are they a sure-fire way to obtain something? Apparently not because this man tried to bribe a police but ended up getting arrested!
Recently, a man in Johor Bahru was arrested after offering RM90,000 to the police to encourage them to release his friend who was being investigated for a fake online job offer syndicate.
Johor Police Chief Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat said the 31-year-old suspect was arrested on Tuesday (October 18, 2022) at a restaurant near Taman Suria after having a meeting with the police.
“In the meeting, the suspect offered RM90,000 in cash as bribe and inducement to release his friend,” he said.
“We warned him not to do that, but the suspect kept insisting that we accept the money. The suspect was later arrested and the cash he trying to hand over to the police was seized,” he said in a media statement.
According to him, the case was referred to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Johor for further investigation.
Earlier, Kamarul Zaman said a few police teams raided an apartment unit on Jalan Tanjung Puteri at about noon on Tuesday (October 18, 2022).
According to him, the police raided and inspected the apartment because it was believed to be used as a call center making non-existent online job offers.
He said, in the raid, the police managed to arrest a 26-year-old foreign man and seize some equipment used to contact and deceive victims.
“When the initial investigation process was being carried out, the raid team received a call from a man who claimed to be a friend of the person arrested in the raid.
“The man wanted to meet the police at a restaurant in Taman Suria before offering the bribe,” he said.
Kamarul Zaman also reminded the public not to offer or give bribes.
Tough luck! Although, the man did prove himself quite loyal.
