As of now, Datin Seri Rosman Mansor gets to go home.

Prior to her release on a RM2 million bail, the situation got emotional in Kuala Lumpur High Court.

Initially, the wife of former Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak was sentenced to 20 years of prison with a fine of RM970 million. Before the sentence was reduced to 10 years, Rosmah teared up and asked the court to be more humane and sympathetic.

“I have never asked for bribes or embezzled money from any party!”

“I’m taking the dual role of a mother and a father”

Utusan reported that Rosmah also asked the court to be more compassionate and look at her as a woman who has to take on the duties of a father and that she is suffering with her family.

“If this can happen to me, this can happen to anyone. To your wife, to your children.”

In the process of seeking to reduce her sentence, she uttered the word “injustice” at the court.

She also said that she has always reminded her lawyers to tell the truth, just as she has always told her children.

“I want to leave this court in a good way. I was once the first lady of this country.”

According to Sin Chew, Rosmah’s defence lawyers have also asked for the fines to be reduced as it is, to date, the highest fine which they dubbed as unreasonable. Despite being released on bail, the amount of the fine remained the same.

In the meantime, her defence lawyers also sought for the jail sentence to be reduced and asked the High Court to take into account Rosmah’s contribution to society, as well as this matter being her first sentence.

After being released on bail, Rosmah took some time to thank her supporters who were waiting outside of the court since this morning. Shortly after, she headed home.

At the time of writing, the dates for the next trial at the Court of Appeal have yet to be determined.
