If you’re caught in the act and too afraid (or egotistical) to face the punishment, you’ll say anything just to get away with it, even if it doesn’t make any sense.

Despite being places of worship, it has never stopped some people from stealing or committing sins especially when they are desperate. Just recently in China, a man was spotted stealing from the temple’s donation box, and it didn’t take long for the police to apprehend him after they received complaints about his suspicious behaviour.

According to Jimu News, the man has been “exploring” the temple for quite some time and it wasn’t his 1st time stealing from the donation box. On July 8, the police received reports from the management of the temple, who said that the money from the donation box has gone missing several times.

3 days later, the perpetrator was caught and investigation proved that the man has been taking money from the donation box. However, according to him, he received “blessings” from Buddha for doing so.

“I’m just borrowing the money. I’ve prayed and I’ve told Buddha that I will return the money, and Buddha even gave me an ‘okay’ sign,” the man claimed.

Did he really expect the police and the people at the temple to believe his act was permissible in the name of Buddha?

The man also revealed that he usually did his laundry at the nearby pond, which was how he noticed that the donation box was mostly left unattended. Things were made easier for him when he notice the donation box was always unlocked.

He didn’t even need much effort to steal. He knew the routine of the people in the temple, and he most certainly was aware of the ideal time to approach the donation box. Well, he had “blessings” from Buddha, so we guess that’s how he knew how to “borrow” the money from the donation box.

Jokes aside, the man went into detention for 12 days after he was arrested.

This reminds us of an incident in Indonesia where a goat stealer claimed that he was stealing the rope, and not the goat.

What excuses do you think a Malaysian thief will give to save himself from being arrested?
