The body was found near the riverbank

According to Sin Chew Daily, Meradong police chief DSP Tansli Mering and several officers from the Bintangor Police Station were deployed to Sungai Kawi along Jalan Simpang Nasional at around 1:10 PM to conduct an investigation.

A fisherman who was out catching prawns in the Sungai Kawi first spotted the floating body and alerted nearby villagers, who then reported it to the police.

The officers used a boat to reach the site, located about 2km away, where the body was found near the riverbank.

Cause of death yet to be determined

The victim was reportedly wearing only a pair of blue jeans, and no identification documents were found on the body.

The body has been sent to Sarikei Hospital for a post-mortem to determine the cause of death and confirm the victim’s identity.

Police have classified the case as a sudden death and are urging anyone with missing family members or friends to contact the Bintangor police station to assist with the investigation.
