An 18-year-old woman was seriously injured after being slashed by another motorcyclist while riding pillion in Melaka on 20 October.

As reported earlier, the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) arrested the suspect within 24 hours, and he later confessed to the attack, admitting that he had romantic feelings for the victim.

The victim, who worked at a factory in Tangga Batu, suffered a wound to her waist after being slashed with a sharp object by the 25-year-old man while riding pillion with her sister-in-law.

She only realised she was hurt after feeling a sudden pain, and investigations later found that the attacker, her own cousin, had lashed out because she rejected his romantic advances.

In a recent update, the unemployed man was sentenced to prison by the Sessions Court yesterday (30 October) after pleading guilty to stabbing his cousin out of anger when she turned him down.

He was sentenced to 7 years in prison

The accused, Muhammad Hidayat Burhan, pleaded guilty after the charge was read before Judge Rohatul Akmar Abdullah, according to Sinar Harian.

According to the charge, he stabbed the victim with a knife at Jalan Tangga Batu, in front of Taman Tangga Batu, around 4:05 p.m.

The offence falls under Section 307 of the Penal Code, which carries a prison sentence of up to 10 years and a fine, or up to 20 years if the act causes injury.

Hidayat, who did not have a lawyer, asked for a lighter sentence, saying he regretted his actions and admitting that he knew the victim, whom he had once tried to woo.

However, Deputy Public Prosecutor Fiqri Hakim Zamri pushed for a fair sentence, pointing out that the attack injured the victim and put her life in danger.

The judge later sentenced Hidayat to seven years in prison, starting from the date of his arrest on October 21.
