Well, isn’t this just spectacular!
Kelviin Lim, 46, who suffered stroke is the epitome of hard work and perseverance as he bounced back and took control of his life like a boss. Five years ago, Lim suddenly collapsed when he was leaving the house as he had suffered a cerebral haemorrhage because two blood vessels burst on the right side of his brain, wrote Asia One.
The doctors told Lim and his family that he had a slim chance of surviving (5 – 10 per cent). There was only one option left for them and that was surgery, but it still came with risks. If the surgery failed, Lim could lose his life or he could live like a vegetable for the rest of his life.
Thankfully, Lim survived the surgery, but he was stuck in a wheelchair because he couldn’t move the left side of his body. Lim relied on his wife to move around, and he didn’t like it one bit. Lim shared,
“I used to frequently wet the bed. There’s a coffee shop below my place that’s just about 300 metres away but it would take me 15 minutes just to wheel myself over. It always felt as though people were looking at me and I became really depressed then.”
It was his aquarium business and three kids that motivated Lim, 46, to keep pushing for a better life. He said: “No one else can help me, only I can help myself.”
So, in the following three years, Lim went through rehabilitation but it wasn’t enough because he wasn’t satisfied with his weight. Thus, he started hitting the gym more often and practised good eating habits. Lim elaborated,
“I wanted to change myself, so in 2017 I got rid of all my bad eating habits and spent my mornings swimming and my evenings at the gym. I even hired a private trainer and lost almost 20kg that year.”
Even though Lim had a rough start at the gym, in a year, Lim became rather fit and toned. He also stopped using his wheelchair and walking cane as he insisted on walking to the office every day to train his body. As a result of his resilience, he was the second runner-up of the 2018 Fitness Ironmen Bodybuilding competition in the above 176cm category. What’s even more amazing is that he levelled-up and emerged the runner-up for the same competition this year (2019) in the 40 years old category. Just, amazing!
We are amazed by Lim’s willpower and determination; we hope that he continues to achieve greater heights in the future. Congratulations, Lim!
