A man’s claim that his father had fallen several times at home was exposed as a lie after medical examinations found that the elderly man was believed to have been beaten, suffering severe injuries, before being certified dead.

Serdang District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Muhamad Farid Ahmad said the case came to light after a medical officer at the Emergency Department of Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz (HCTM) in Cheras received the 76‑year‑old victim in a semi‑conscious state at around 3 PM on 19 January.

“The victim was brought to the hospital’s red zone by his 40‑year‑old son, who claimed that his father had fallen several times at their home at the Seri Kembangan Low-Cost Housing Project.”

“However, initial examinations found that the pattern of bruises on the victim’s body was irregular and suspected to be injuries caused by blunt force,” he said in a statement.

Victim’s son has been arrested

Acting on the information, a team from the Criminal Investigation Division of the Serdang District Police Headquarters arrested the victim’s son at the HCTM Emergency Department lobby at about 9:30 PM on the same day.

“The case was initially investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code, and the suspect was remanded under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code until January 30.”

“Checks revealed that the suspect has 11 previous criminal and drug-related records, while a urine screening test came back negative,” he added.

According to him, on 22 January, the victim was confirmed to have died from head injuries caused by blunt force trauma.

“Following this, the case has been reclassified under Section 302 of the Penal Code.”

He said the case remains under investigation, and members of the public with relevant information are urged to come forward to assist.
