A 43-year-old man from Singapore has turned to a matchmaking agency to help him find a wife since he’s never been in a relationship before.
After spending what he claims is SGD12,000 over the past 3 years to get the agency to find him a Vietnamese bride, he still hasn’t found the right match and is now accusing the agency of ripping him off.

The woman was allegedly engaged to someone else
Stomp reported that Wang’s first match was with a woman named Ah Hua, for whom he paid the SGD2,000 betrothal fee and even travelled to Vietnam to meet her.
That’s when he found out she was already engaged to someone else.
“Ah Hua told me that she was engaged to someone else, but if I wanted to marry her, I’d have to pay the betrothal gift right away and hold the wedding the next month. Only then would she break up with her fiancé and marry me.”

Another woman he met was banned from entering Singapore
The matchmaking agency then introduced Wang to another Vietnamese woman named Ah Lian.
Wang alleged that the person in charge of the matchmaking agency said Wang had to pay the full amount to bring Ah Lian to Singapore.
But after paying, the woman was banned from entering Singapore for undisclosed reasons, making it impossible for him to marry her here without a hitch.
“I’ve spent around SGD12,000 and still haven’t married anyone.” he said.

“I didn’t lie to him”
The matchmaking agency’s founder, Lin, responded to the accusations, explaining that they’ve introduced over 20 women to Wang.
He also denied the claim that the first woman, Ah Hua, was already engaged to someone else.
“I’ve been in this business for 23 years. Most guys only need one or two women, but Wang dragged it out for so long and still can’t get married. Whose problem is that?” he said.
He clarified that Ah Hua had met a guy, but they couldn’t agree on things, so the engagement fell through, and that’s when he introduced her to Wang.
As for the second woman Wang tried to marry, Lin explained that registering the marriage first would make it way easier for her to get into Singapore.
“If you register, it shows you want her to come in as your wife, but I’m not the one getting married. If he doesn’t follow the procedures, there’s nothing I can do.”
