The general public has accepted the fact that Thaipusam and Chingay processions will not be allowed next year due to the potential risk of the Omicron variant.
But, what they can’t accept is the fact that the government, who made the decision to disallow the above mentioned celebrations, is throwing a weekend long event, in which they’re encouraging the masses to attend and participate.
MAJLIS KESELAMATAN NEGARA (MKN) took to their Twitter account to announce Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob’s ‘100 Hari Aspirasi Keluarga Malaysia’ event at KLCC, starting today.
They wrote, “All #KeluargaMalaysia, let’s come together to liven the ‘100 Hari Aspirasi Keluarga Malaysia’ programme at KLCC from 9 to 12 December 2021, starting from 9am to 10pm.”
This made many wonder, if Thaipusam and Chingay processions will be effected by the Omicron variant, then wouldn’t this event also be effected just the same?
“Thaipusam chariots are a no go, but this one can?”
“It looks like MKN is no longer safe. Encouraging people to gather in crowds during the pandemic, not asking the public to adhere to SOPs. No wonder cases are increasing.”
“Celebration? MKN is inviting the people to celebrate? Gather in crowds? Is there no Omicron threat?”
One netizen even simply put, “DO YOU WANT THE PEOPLE TO BE ANGRY?”
With the new threat of the Omicron variant, the people’s anger is justified by their struggle to get through and to get out of the Covid-19 pandemic.
It would be saddening to see all the efforts of exhausted frontliners go to waste over a potential new breakout.
