In Malaysia, it is illegal to sell dog meat and eating them is heavily frowned upon by society, as dogs are some of our favourite pets. A Malaysian dog lover and Professional Pet Skin Therapist, Lee Jun Hau, recently exposed a restaurant in Kampung Baru Broga that was discovered to be selling dog meat openly to their customers.
In his Facebook post, he said that one of his friends had gone to investigate at the restaurant and talked with the owner. They admitted that they were selling dog meat although it was not always available and many other wild game meats too, including squirrels, porcupines, hedgehogs and rabbits, and was rumoured to have crocodile meat as well.
The dog meat was nicknamed as “three-six” (which equals nine and this number sounds like the word dog in Cantonese) and only cost RM25 per serving. Before that, Lee’s friend had visited the restaurant and recorded the conversation as proof that they were selling dog meat.
The female owner advised Lee’s friend, saying that they should make reservations earlier if they wanted the dog meat, as supply was scarce. Lee said that this had actually been going on for over two years and the last time, these unscrupulous owners had gotten away with it because the activists did not have any proof. This time, they were better prepared and had photos as well as the recording to back them up.
He had set off with a team to rescue the poor dogs that were locked in cages the next day but unfortunately, he got there too late. Lee wrote, “Sorry, doggies, we were too late to save you. I just received the message and wanted to save you but it looks like it was too late. The dogs had been killed the night before, as we have reports that they usually slaughter them secretly at night.”
He said that he shared the post so that other people can be aware of this issue and also hopes that the authorities will shut the place down. He added that the owners of the restaurant do not sound like they are locals and wants their business licence to be revoked.
Lee told WORLD OF BUZZ that they have already made a police report, and when they went back the next day to check, the restaurant was still open.
Hopefully, the authorities will take the appropriate action and close down the shop so that no more dogs will be harmed!
