Recently, there have been many accounts of Malaysians treating the differently abled unfairly and poorly. Some have even poked fun as well as ‘imitate’ someone who is differently abled.
Fortunately, there are still plenty of good souls out there. Recently a video which has gone viral on TikTok featured a man who went out of his way to guide a pair of blind men to assist them with their shopping.
The video which was posted by Haris, showed a pair of blind men clutching to his arm as he guided them to go shopping.
In the video, Haris says, “Today when I was out in KL, I came across this amazing pair named Rafique and Syamil.”
“They wanted to purchase some sporting goods at Pavilion and when they asked me for directions they were facing in the direction of Bukit Bintang,” he added.
“After I instructed them on where to go, I felt bad for not guiding them. I then chased after them.”
“The two are fully blind and as we walked, they shared a lot of their stories and experiences. This is the first time that they have been to Pavilion.”
Haris mentioned that after they were done at the sports store, he then guided them back to MRT Bukit Bintang.
“You guys are amazing. Hope everything goes well in the future,” concluded Haris.
Netizens praise him for his selflessness
The video went viral and has amassed over 21,800 views at the time of writing. Many users praised Haris for his actions and how he was quick to help the pair in need when he was not obligated to do so.
A user who also has an eyesight disability commented, “Thank you for helping the pair who are suffering the same difficulties as myself. I hope that your efforts are rewarded.”
“You’re the best bro. I love watching things like this on social media. Sometimes God sends strangers for us to help,” said another.
Video caught the attention of Rafique’s and Syamil’s mother
Amazingly enough, the video even managed to capture the attention of the mothers of the blind pair. Haris’ wife, Fatimah, took to her Instagram stories to share the messages she had received from Syamil’s and Rafique’s mother.
In a message sent to Fatimah, Rafique’s mother said, “Thank you to you and your husband for taking care of my son and his friend.”
“Rafique has been very independent ever since he was young. If I were to stop him from doing anything that worries me, he would feel that I am doubting his capabilities.”
“That is why if he could do anything, he would just do it. Anyways, thank you once again,” she said.
Meanwhile, Syamil’s mother also expressed her thanks towards the couple. “Syamil always brings along a friend whenever he goes to somewhere he is unfamiliar with.”
“If I were to not allow him to go, he would still go. But I trust him and am always praying to God that he remains safe,” she added.
