There are many reasons why a person would even consider taking their own lives, but whatever it is, suicide is never the way out. Also, did you know attempting suicide is a crime in Malaysia? All the more reason NOT to do it!
24-year-old Yew Kah Sin, was charged in court a few days ago for attempted suicide. Apparently she tried to kill herself by slitting her wrists with a knife but was unsuccessful.
According to NST, the incident happened on 30 March this year at a beauty salon located at a shopping centre in Bandar Sunway. She was later discovered and rushed to the emergency ward where she received 30 stitches to her wrists. Luckily, she managed to survive the ordeal.
Yew faced the court after she was discharged from the hospital, where Magistrate Salamiah Salleh sentenced her to a fine of RM2,000 or three months jail after the accused entered a guilty plea.
“No matter how much pressure you are facing, suicide is not a solution, now you’re out of the hospital, you must be charged in court anyway. You must know that attempting suicide is a crime,” the Magistrate said.
Yew pleaded for leniency in the sentencing, as she was unemployed and had to take care of her mother who was stricken with lung cancer. She attended the session with her boyfriend and looked calm during proceedings. After the sentencing, Yew paid the fine.
