If you have been scrolling through social media these few days then you would have seen an image circulating of Malaysia mixing up the flags of several countries when broadcasting the latest medal tally. In fact, out of the 11 countries on display, they got eight of the flags mixed up. What’s happening ah, Malaysia?
Of course, we know this is not the first blunder they have made in regards to flags of participating countries and even our very own Jalur Gemilang. *cringes internally*
The national broadcaster of the KL2017 SEA Games, RTM has acknowledged their mistakes and promised that they would take preventive measures to stop these embarrassing mix-ups from happening again.
A little late isn’t it? Perhaps this should’ve been done since the very first screw-up for the Indonesia flag? T_T
According to The Star, RTM’s director-general of broadcasting Datuk Abu Bakar Ab Rahim stated that they have apologised for the errors on news segments on Thursday and Friday night. He explained that the it was an oversight that happened at production level as the medal results were constantly changing.
He said, “We will take action in order to prevent something similar from happening again.” Netizens spotted the gaffe and criticised it as Malaysia was the host country and this reflected badly on us.
A Singaporean online media which covered the news about this blunder had put Malaysia in the spotlight, with its article garnering over 2.3k shares and plenty of Singaporeans questioning Malaysia’s competency. We also know lah T_T
The mind-blowing mistakes that occurred on Friday was that Vietnam had the Singapore flag, Singapore had the Thailand flag, Thailand was represented by the Indonesian flag, Indonesia was given the Vietnam flag, the Philippines and Myanmar featured the Myanmar flag, Laos was given the Cambodian flag, while Cambodia had the Laos flag. Oh dear!
Let’s hope that there will be no more embarrassing mishaps like that again!
