If you think creating memes is just something people do for fun, it’s time to get your head around the fact that some companies are willing to pay meme creators a salary of over $120,000 (RM500,000)!
A post on Cryptocurrency Jobs shows a job advertisement for Gitcoin, a platform based in Colorado, United States that enables open source developers to monetise their work when it is used.
The job position was stated as “Meme Artist/Shitposter + Community Manager”, which calls for candidates who have some experience with crypto communities, solid organisational skills, great vibes, and one who “already spends way too much time on Twitter and Discord”.
Besides having an interest in open source, the candidate needs to be self-taught in some field, a “voracious learner” and someone who “memes for the public good”.
“Previous experience managing community channels (bonus points for shitposting receipts). Good vibes, you’re personable and able to find ways to connect with people even when there’s not a clear call to action,” the post writes.
“You have a bias towards action. You get things done. When you can’t get them done, you know how to work with the team / community to get what you need.”
The post also added that this is a hands-on role that will enable candidates to work in and for the community whilst also growing, engaging and getting feedback from folks in web3.
The job post states that candidates can apply remotely and will be compensated between $80,000 (RM338,360) to $120,000 (RM507,540)
It also listed the responsibilities as follows:
- Creating content around events and activities happening in the Gitcoin community
- Memeing Gitcoin’s community governance process into existence
- Moderating Discord and other channels where the Gitcoin community lives
- Finding new and novel ways to improve the Discord experience
- Helping new community members navigate the ecosystem and go from 0-1 in web3
- Moderating and posting updates on Gitcoin’s Twitter
To apply for this job, email founders@gitcoin.co with a link to your Twitter or github.
“Tell us about your experience managing another Discord community and send some 10/10 memes.”
Meanwhile, Nat Eliason, founder of the marketing agency, Growth Machine, tweeted about the job posting saying,
“This is a six figure meme making job at a legit company. No matter how silly your kid’s interests seem… don’t ever tell them they should give them up for a ‘real job’.”
