From the criminally-genius musical minds of Brendan de Cruz, Kieran Jumawan, Jaime Gunter, Gabriel Januarius and Ashwin Gobinath comes the super-group Jaki-Brashga.
Experimenting with folk-rock music, Jaki-Brahsga will gives you the feels while bringing you to your feet. A winning combo!
Speaking to WORLD OF BUZZ, the talented musicians behind Jaki-Brashga explained the creative virtuoso that fused them together. Late last year, Brendan decided that he was going to form a band that could work, grow and create together, and at the same time build chemistry and synergy to produce music in a completely different manner than he had done before.
He then presented his idea and vision to each member individually, and they agreed to come on board. That’s how Jaki-Brashga was born, but you might be wondering, what does Jaki-Brashga even mean?
“The name Jaki-Brashga came around pretty randomly at the beginning. We had been brainstorming band names for a bit, and nothing really stuck out or rang well for us. We then tried taking our names and jumbling them around to see if anything would work.”
“Jaki is a combination of Jaime Gunter (bass) and Kieran Jumawan (lead guitars), and Brashga is a combination of Brendan de Cruz (vocals/guitars), Ashwin Gobinath (drums) and Gabriel Januarius (keys),” Brendan shared.
Now that they’ve got the band together, they’re making sweet, sweet music together
“Right now, we are having an absolutely amazing time writing and producing new material, and every session we have turns into a musical adventure of sorts and we end up getting completely immersed in the experience of creating. We are very much looking forward to bringing our music to audiences near and far, and have them experience a musical journey that touches the soul, invigorates the mind and moves the spirit,” he added.
Jaki-Brashga hopes to perform at festivals locally and internationally while creating a memorable impact on all the lives that their music touches.
“We are not just a band, we are an experience.”
“The Our Worlds: A Live Experience concert will be our maiden showcase, and we could not be more thrilled about bringing the music to our audiences. We have poured our hearts and souls into the production of the music, our main organizing team, Studio 28, are the anchors behind the execution of the showcase, we also are collaborating with multi-disciplinary artiste, Faris Nasir a.k.a. Vuevossa, who will be curating visuals via projection-mapping, for a truly memorable, aural and visual experience.”
Coming this May 12 (Friday), you’ll want to make your way to Nero Space at the Petaling Jaya Performing Arts Centre (PJPAC) at 8pm for the show of your lives as Jaki-Brashga is officially making their debut with Our Worlds: A Live Experience.
