It’s no secret that Malaysians love concerts. So much so that many of us have travelled to neighbouring countries to attend music festivals, especially when they feature artists that wouldn’t come to Malaysia.

But there are some festivals held in countries further away from us that seem to be almost unattainable for us due to the high prices of tickets and traveling, for instance, Coachella in the United States (US).

Malaysian YouTuber and TikToker, Ivor_xianz, took to her Twitter page to showcase her trip to Coachella including the food at the festival, her travel expenses and how much she spent overall. Firstly, Ivor purchased 3-day passes to Coachella, which was $600 (RM2,400).

She wrote, “Here’s how much I’ve spent in Coachella in 4 days (including everything, flights, passes, etc).”

Travel expenses

Her visa to the US cost a whopping $170 (RM780), and her (40 hours!!) flights to and from California cost an even more whopping $1,200 (RM4,500).

Once arriving in Los Angeles, she had to travel 2 hours (without traffic) to the location, which you can do 2 ways:

  • With the shuttle bus pass (that costs an extra $185 or RM821), which picks you up from LAX and transports you around for the 3-day festival
  • Rent a car for $200 or RM887 a day

Accommodation

You can either book a hotel package along with your Coachella passes but that would costs you additional thousands, or you can get an Airbnb which costs around $300 (RM1,331) per person for 3 nights.

Food and drinks

Coachella 6

Meals at Coachella can come up to $15 (RM66) to $20 (RM89), while the drinks are surprisingly more expensive. Ivor paid $18 (RM80) for a cup of lemonade!

Thankfully, the food portions are huge (American-sized) which can be shared.

She estimates that, for the 3-day festival, she spent a total of $200 (RM887) on.

Miscellaneous costs

Coachella 7

From cart rides to performer merchandise and a ride on the Ferris Wheel, she suggests putting aside at least $100 (RM444).

Overall, Ivor spent a total of RM14,789 for her trip to Coachella.

Considering we don’t have that kind of money, we’re just going to live vicariously through Ivor. One day, Coachella, one day.
