In a tragic road accident involving a tour bus, a trailer, and an MPV, 7 people, including a baby girl, lost their lives, while 33 others were injured in Melaka.
It was also reported that the body of one male victim was severed above the waist due to the impact of the collision.
“My condolences go out to the victims’ families”
Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook expressed his condolences to the families of the victims who lost their lives in the road accident on the North-South Expressway near the Ayer Keroh toll plaza on December 23.
He explained that the authorities’ initial investigation showed that the accident was caused by a trailer truck’s tyre coming off, which made the tour bus swerve and hit 3 oncoming vehicles.
“The accident, which claimed 7 lives, was caused by the trailer truck’s tyre detaching, causing the tour bus to swerve, crash, and hit 3 vehicles,” he said.
“We will enforce strict measures on heavy commercial vehicles”
In response, Loke has directed the Director of the Enforcement Division of the Road Transport Department (JPJ) to conduct a thorough investigation into the cause of the accident and take appropriate action against the trailer truck and bus companies involved.
Additionally, he mentioned that JPJ will keep enforcing strict rules on heavy commercial vehicles to make sure safety is always followed, keeping road users safe.
