The more experience you have in an industry, the more you tend to get paid, and that’s usually the same for actors in the entertainment industry. Unfortunately, a local veteran actor can’t say the same about herself when she revealed that she was only offered RM200 for her role in a telefilm.

“It’s not a new thing”

The Malaysian veteran actress, Wan Maimunah expressed her regret about the matter, and she’s even more saddened by it as she’s not the only victim of severe underpay.

“This problem has been ongoing for a very long time but unfortunately, there have been no solutions.”

Despite her love for her acting career, Wan doesn’t think the pay is worth her effort and said she might as well just rest at home. She couldn’t deny her sadness about being offered only RM200 for a role in a telefilm, as it’s not an easy job to bring a role to life on the screen.

“There are a lot of scenes to be filmed and it’s definitely tiring,” she said.

Sadly, Wan sometimes had to beg for her pay in the past when the production company takes its own sweet time to pay her the long overdue wage.

Fortunately, despite her severely low pay, Wan can still manage to survive as she has always been in touch with her adopted family. Wan separated from her husband a few years back and their marriage lasted for only 2 years.

Is the grass greener on the other side?

According to Harian Metro, Wan is more than happy to offer roles from different and new production companies, even just for short films. That is simply because they pay more than what she earned for her telefilm.

RM200 for a role in local production is still severely low, especially given Wan’s time in the industry, as well as her acting talent.
