There are millions of people in this world who share the same surname so of course, that does not mean these people are related in any way. Just recently, Perikatan Nasional’s Dr. Siti Mastura, who is also the MP for Kepala Batas made a claim that caused waves of laughter online.

In a viral clip, Siti claimed that Lim Guan Eng, the former Minister of Finance, and his father, Tan Sri Lim Kit Siang are both related to Chin Peng, the deceased leader of the Malayan Communist Party.

These were not the only claims and Siti “presented” a lot of family tree history in the clip and confidently said that,

  • Lim Kit Siang and Lim Guan Eng are cousins of the former Singapore PM, Lee Kuan Yew (Siti pronounced his name as LIM Kuan Yew)
  • Teresa Kok is a cousin to Betty Chew, Guan Eng’s wife.
  • Anthony Loke and Nga Kor Ming have family relationships with Kit Siang and Guan Eng.

These claims were made during a PAS event in Terengganu on November 4 and to Guan Eng, Siti’s statements were nothing but a major defamation, and he’s not going to sit still.

A legal action is being taken, and Guan Eng has appointed a lawyer to represent him.

“Siti was clearly showing a family tree that doesn’t exist. It’s a major defamation, her family and Siti herself refused to present evidence and apologise for the defamation,” Guan Eng said.

The former Ministry of Finance also said that Siti’s claims were made to instill hate and a form of extremism, as well as a means to go against DAP leaders.

“Her supporters don’t even care about the rumours that she was spreading.”

In his Facebook post, Guan Eng called out to the head of PAS, Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang, and the Chairman of PN, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to respond to the matter, and comment if they are against or on board with Siti’s defaming claims.

In the meantime, PDRM also revealed that 4 reports regarding the matter have been lodged, and they will record Siti’s statement on Monday (November 12).
