Yes, we’re told again and again to love ourselves and our bodies. But sometimes it can be quite difficult.
Most of us girls always have that one part of our body we genuinely get annoyed with. A majority of the time, it’s that little belly we have on our lower abdomen area.
We’ve tried to get rid of it through various methods including diets, exercise, fat burning pills and so forth, but should we be trying to get rid of it in the first place?
The Mummies & Daddies Facebook page took to their profile to explain what that little pouch of fat really is and why it’s important.

It turns out that the little belly fat us girls have on our lower stomach is there to protect our uterus.
That’s right, women are always meant to have that little belly because you have a uterus! As according to Her Campus, it’s called a belly pooch.
The belly pooch is a small pad of fat that sits below the belly button and above the pelvic bowl. It is meant to be protective to a woman’s reproductive organs such as her ovaries, fallopian tubes and uterus.
“Overall, healthy women have belly pouches (yes, some women naturally have bodies without the belly fat and they can still be perfectly healthy). I’m generalising, but even some of the thinnest and healthiest girls I know have a belly of some sort,” they wrote.
The belly pooch is deemed to be necessary to the healthy functions of your body. Understanding what the belly pooch is, much less making peace with it, still seems to be a very taboo subject. There’s still so many article and videos online that share ‘ways to get rid for belly fat’ or ‘how to get a flat stomach’ without understanding why no matter how hard some women try, there will always be that little bump of fat there.
Hence, don’t fret or feed into the unrealistic standards of beauty that we see on social media. Your little belly pooch is your uterus and you should be loving her instead of trying to get rid of it.
