We’ve heard stories of how the youth of today are being drastically underpaid, but this is just absurd.
Earlier today (6th January), a netizen took to Facebook to share the heartbreaking story of how he met a young man who had been pushing his motorbike for 6 hours straight, on the highway from Tanjung Malim to Tapah, Perak because he couldn’t afford to pump petrol.
The poor man, who goes by the name of Iwan, said his employer had recently fired him from his position as a security guard in Bukit Jalil even though he was unpaid for two months all because he asked if his expected salary could be sent back to his village. His boss was so angered by the young man’s questioning that he dismissed him on the spot with a mere RM5 as compensation!
But that’s not all. When the netizen found the young man in Perak, he was told that he was planning to travel like this until he reached his hometown in Penang!
The netizen recalled the conversation they shared in his post:
“Me: Bang (Brother), What’s the matter? Is the motor broken?
Him: No, the motor is running out of oil.
Me: Do you want me to send it to the oil pump?
Him: It’s okay brother.
Me: Where are you travelling to?
Him: I was from KL but I want to go to my home in Penang. I ran out of fuel at Tanjung Malim. I have been pushing this motorcycle for 6 hours.
Me: How long are you planning on pushing your motorcycle?
Him: Until I get home.”
Upon hearing the poor man’s plight, the kind netizen loaded the young man’s bike into his 4X4 vehicle and drove him all the way to a petrol station in Penang. The netizen shared that the experience was definitely eye-opening for him.
“I gave him RM10. I would give more but I’m only able to give as much as I have. Praise God. From this, I feel very grateful for what God has given me.”
Netizens who read his post were touched by the kind gesture and said karma will surely repay him back. Many others also shared how more people should be more kind towards each other, instead of treating them with cruelty – just like how his employer did.
Be thankful for what you have. Hopefully, things get better for this young man.
