Popular British music group Coldplay recently announced that they will be holding their very first concert in Malaysia this November, sending fans of the band in a flurry to purchase tickets for the show.
However, Coldplay’s upcoming maiden concert in our country is not without its controversies, from scalpers to those that object to the concert being held.
Well, now another controversy has arisen from the concert and it involves, rather unwillingly on his part, famous Malaysian food content creator and influencer Khairul Aming.
In a Facebook post by PAS Kelantan Youth Chief Mohamad Kamal Mohamed, an open letter was directed toward Khairul Aming, whereby Mohamad Kamal criticised the Sambal Nyet owner simply because he successfully bought tickets to the Coldplay concert.
In the open letter, Khairul Aming, who hails from Kelantan was criticised by the PAS Kelantan Youth Chief for “indirectly promoting a concert and artist that vehemently promote LGBT”.
Mohamad Kamal asserted that he was saddened to read a tweet by Khairul Aming who tried really hard to get the concert tickets. The politician said,
“For me, a clean public figure like yourself shouldn’t indirectly promote a concert and artist that vehemently promote LGBT.”
“I am saddened, my heart is broken while reading your tweet on how you tried really hard to get the tickets.”
Mohamad Kamal then said he knows he can’t stop the will of others but he would like to advise Khairul Aming on the matter.
He then urges the food content creator to think of the adverse effects of LGBT that the “Coldplay concert will bring”.
In the post’s comments section, many were perplexed by this open letter targeting Khairul Aming when all he did was bought concert tickets to a music group that he likes. Some even accused Mohamad Kamal of trying to ‘ride’ on Khairul Aming’s popularity.
One commenter said that by the PAS Kelantan Youth Chief’s logic, other pro-LGBT international brands should also be banned in Malaysia, including the English Premier League.
Besides that, another commenter said that rather than writing an open letter to Khairul Aming, Mohamad Kamal should write one to the Kelantan Water Department to settle the ongoing water issues in the state.
