While flood victims were dealing with the damage caused by the disaster, one of them was suspected of molesting an underage girl.

A 21-year-old man, who was among the flood victims in Bachok, Kelantan, was arrested by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) on suspicion of molesting a 16-year-old girl, also a flood victim, at a temporary evacuation centre (PPS).

The victim did not know the suspect personally, and they had only a brief conversation at the evacuation centre

Bachok District Police Chief Superintendent Mohd Ismail Jamaluddin said the incident occurred on Wednesday (26 November) at around 11 AM. After the assault, the victim immediately informed her mother.

The girl then lodged a police report, and the suspect was arrested on the same day.

According to Ismail, the 21-year-old suspect has a criminal record related to drug use. He also confirmed that the suspect is currently in police custody, which is expected to last until Sunday (30 November), as reported by Berita Harian.

The case is being investigated under Section 14 of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017. At the time of writing (29 November), PDRM has yet to release an official statement on the matter.
