JUST IN: Woman Arrested for Storming Stage & Attempting to Hug Perak Sultan During Merdeka Day Celebration

A shocking incident rocked the state-level Merdeka Day celebrations in Ipoh, Perak, today, after a woman stormed the stage and attempted to hug the Perak ruler, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah.

However, the woman was thwarted by security personnel and has since been arrested. Videos of the incident have gone viral online, including this one reposted by BERNAMA on its X account.

Perak Police Chief Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin was quoted by Sinar Harian as saying that the incident took place at around 8.20 AM while the Perak state anthem was playing.

He added that the suspect has been identified as a 41-year-old woman with a record of drug-related offences and a history of psychiatric treatment.

However, the suspect tested negative for drugs following the arrest.

The case is being investigated under Sections 325 and 511 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt and attempting to commit an offence.
