The Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) is carrying out a comprehensive operation to monitor the exhaust modification of vehicles that started yesterday, 1 March, including residential areas.
According to Sinar Harian, Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) Selangor Superintendent Azman Shariat said that the operation, known as Ops Ubah Suai Ekzos (Ops Exhaust Modification) is a “more comprehensive action” that will involve areas that don’t just include the main roads but also other changed locations.
“We are also focusing on residential areas including apartments and flats because there are complaints of exhaust disturbances in residential areas,” he said.
Azman has also advised all vehicle owners who have modifications to their exhausts, regardless of whether they own motorcycles or cars, to change back to the original exhaust to avoid bearing the consequences.
As explained by Azman, vehicle owners that are found guilty of modifying their exhausts that emit make noisy sounds and disturb public order can be prosecuted under Rule 103 which is under the Motor Vehicles (Construction and Use) Rule 1959 (LN 170/1959).
“The individual involved can be imprisoned not more than six months or fined not more than RM2,000,” he added.
The operation which started at 10am yesterday, was joined by the Road Transport Department (JPJ) and the Department of Environment (DOE).
