On 11 October 2020, the Petaling District Disaster Management Committee (JPBD) announced that the shopping centre will be closed for 14 days starting 11 October.
To cope with this, the mall alongside MOH became the only shopping centre to initiate and conduct mass Covid-19 testing for all their mall and tenant staffs.
Until 14 October, JPBD announced that the shopping centre has recorded 63 positive Covid-19 cases with 59 cases from the Petaling district and the remaining four from outside the Petaling district. The cases breakdown is as follow:
- Complex Management Worker: 1 case
- Complex Worker: 15 cases (12 cases inside Petaling district + 3 cases outside Petaling district)
- Security Personnel: 44 cases
- Mall visitors: 3 cases (2 cases Petaling district +1 case outside Petaling district)
6,000 workers have been swab tested by the management across more than 700 tenants in a record time of two days (11 and 12 October 2020). RM1.5 million was spent on swab test kits with expenses paid and borne by 1 Utama .
They also reassured that they have taken this closure period to thoroughly deep clean and sanitize the entire mall again with hospital-grade disinfectants. “Don’t give up… we will sail through this together. You’ve got this!”, they said in the statement.
If you’ve come in close contact with anyone suspected, immediately isolate yourself and inform the authorities. It’s up to us to combat the third wave of the Covid-19 infection.
