The Movement Control Order may have forced most of us to stay home, but what happens when you do not have a home to return to? Where do you go then? A family of six in Johor recently had to face this cruel reality, after they were evicted from their rental home during the MCO period, according to Berita Harian.

Despite living in their rented home for over six years, the family of six, headed by 44-year-old Mohd Balhisham Abdul Latif, was recently evicted after they failed to make rent. This was said to have been the case after Mr Balhisham faced health difficulties recently and wasn’t able to return to work as he would normally, cutting off the family’s main source of income.

“When the owner of the house issued the eviction notice to me, I had no choice but to quickly build a makeshift hut for my family in a nearby rubber plantation here.

I don’t have anywhere else to go, and in the MCO period, I can’t find a new place to rent.” he says.

In addition to the rental of his old house, which costs RM200, Mr Balhisham also had to bear the cost of raising his four children, the youngest of which is only seven-months-old. Due to the MCO, he also hasn’t been able to find work, and now depends on food donations from anyone who is willing to help to survive.

However, Mr Balhisham has said that despite the MCO not allowing his children to return to school, he makes sure that they continue to study while away and maintain their education at home.

Thankfully, it has been revealed in an update by Berita Harian that Mr Balhisham and his family will now be living with his father in Kampung Weng Dalam, Mukim Siong and hopefully, will be able to find a home of his own soon.

We wish Mr Balhisham and his family all the luck in the world to make it through these trying times!
