PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang recently shared his thoughts on Facebook after DAP suggested limiting the Prime Minister’s term to 10 years.
In his post, he stressed that only qualified Muslims should lead the community and pointed out that Malaysia belongs to Malay Muslims.

“It violates equal rights”
Penang MCA secretary Yeoh Chin Kah has since fired back at Hadi for dismissing the contributions of non-Malays and non-Muslims, asking if the PAS leader is too narrow-minded to acknowledge Malaysia’s diverse, multi-racial, and multi-religious society.
He also pointed out that Malaysia’s Constitution doesn’t say the Prime Minister has to be a Malay Muslim.
“Limiting the Prime Minister’s race and religion goes against the Constitution’s principle of equal rights, creates racial distrust, and could even cause social instability,” he explained.

“We need a leader who represents all Malaysians”
Yeoh argued that Malaysia’s stability shouldn’t come from limiting who can be Prime Minister but through political transparency, stronger rule of law, better education, and fostering unity among all ethnic groups.
He also emphasised the need to embrace diversity, inclusivity, and shared values to ensure all voices are heard, calling Hadi’s stance the complete opposite of what’s needed for true social harmony.
“Our country needs a leader who represents all Malaysians. We must create a fair and just political environment where everyone can contribute to nation-building equally.”
