Warnings about the dangers of floodwaters have done little to deter residents in Kuantan who appeared to be turning the disaster into a day of fun.

A 17-second clip which has gone viral on social media showed children splashing through chest-deep water that has swallowed a playground, creating what looks like an oversized pool.

Another shot showed kids laughing on swings and sliding down long slides as adults watch from the roadside. The video, according to its caption, was filmed at Perumahan Makmur Inderapura Jaya along Jalan Kuantan-Pekan in Kuantan.

“Don’t have too much fun.”

Netizens took to the comments section to share their thoughts on the video. While some users reminisced about carefree childhood days, the majority slammed parents for letting children play in filthy floodwater.

“There’s a risk of bacterial infection in the water… Don’t have too much fun.”

One user said, “There are lots of worms in that river water and last year there were crocodiles too. The adults are just watching. If someone gets bitten, then everyone will panic.”

Oh dear, kids… It’s so worrying to see this. Just don’t fall sick later, hospital beds are never enough,” said another netizen.
