The monsoon season is obviously over!

After months of enduring heavy rains and not seeing the sun, now we’re experiencing a heatwave that’s making us wish we could rewind the time to when the monsoon season kept us from drying up.

But, fret not, because BERNAMA took to their Twitter page to share important information needed for us to ensure we keep ourselves safe during this hot and dry weather!

Heatwave 1

They wrote, “The hot and dry weather in the final phase of the Northeast Monsoon is a recurring phenomenon from February to May.”

“The hot and dry weather in the final phase of the Northeast Monsoon is a recurring phenomenon from February to May. Low cloud coverage and rainfall (is expected) in most places but particularly in northern Peninsular Malaysia in states like Perak, Pahang and Kelantan.”

They also added that, so far, the highest recorded temperature this year was 36.9 degrees Celsius in Chuping, Perlis, on February 8 (Thursday).

Here are the tips in which you can keep yourselves safe during the heatwave:

  • Conserve water
  • Limit outdoor activity
  • Drink a lot of water
  • Take a bath or use a fan to cool down your bodies
  • Wear lightweight, loose clothing and avoid dark colours
  • Use a hat or umbrella for protection from the sun

It is also important for you to know that temperatures tend to rise in the evenings, and may exceed 35 degrees Celsius.

Considering this isn’t our first heatwave, us Malaysians should know the drill and keep ourselves hydrated. Also, don’t forget to wear sunscreen should you have to head outdoors!

What do you think about this? Do feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section.
