Italy takes yet another blow as it officially loses 100 doctors to the Covid-19 pandemic.
According to a report by Harian Metro, 4 more doctors on the front line died in a time span of 24 hours yesterday (9th April). Spokesperson of the Italian Doctors Organization (FNOMCeO) noted that the number of doctors passing due to the disease is increasing by the day and becoming rather alarming.
“The number of doctors that has passed due to the virus has totaled to 100 and could become 101 today, unfortunately”, said the spokesperson.
The 100 doctors is inclusive of retired doctors that voluntarily came back to work when the virus was rapidly spreading. They were among the 8,000 medical staff who voluntarily became front liners in the past month. As of now, many places in Italy are facing a shortage of medical staff.
Based on the Italian Public Health Institute, a sum of 13,121 healthcare professionals within the country has been infected with Covid-19. As of yesterday, the country has reported 17,000 over deaths to the gruesome virus.
