At this point, most Malaysians know that Raya is synonymous with balik kampung and that means traffic jams.
However, this year, things will be a little different as a section of the Lingkaran Tengah Utama (LTU) Expressway which is Section 5A: Raub Bypass has been opened.
According to BERNAMA, Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi has said that with this opening, the travelling time from the East Coast Expressway (LPT) to Kuala Lipis will be shortened as road users will not have to go through Raub and Bentong.
“It can save two hours of travelling time compared to using the existing road that has to pass through Bentong and Raub.”
He continued, “We expect to reduce the risk of road accidents too because the road junction that will be opened will be equipped with traffic lights; this route can save travelling costs and also reduce traffic congestion on the existing Jalan Persekutuan, especially during peak hours, festive seasons and school holidays.”
Section 5A: Raub Bypass is 9.6km long: 600 metres of it was opened up last year and with this year’s opening (6.4km), only 2.6km remains till it is completed. The expected time of completion is June 2024.
This certainly seems like a great move! Hopefully, the rest of the expressway will open up soon.
