All we can hope is that Malaysians are following SOPs when they visit these stores…
With the re-branding of the Movement Control Order into “Phases”, the SOPs for the areas under MCO are all subject to change. Even though Selangor and certain parts of KL are placed under the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO), they are still technically under Phase One.
If you happened to look through Facebook last night, you would notice that your favourite departmental stores including Isetan and SOGO were all set for reopening today (9 July). In a Facebook post, Isetan clarified that Isetan KLCC, The Gardens Mall and Pop-In Stores will resume operations on 9 July.
SOGO Malaysia also took to their Facebook page to announce that SOGO Kuala Lumpur and Johor Bahru will resume operations today and reminded customers to practise physical distancing when they’re shopping. Now, while certain Malaysians were questioning if this was a violation of SOPs, there are two aspects to be considered here.
First is that these stores are in areas of Kuala Lumpur not under the EMCO thus they’re only subject to the Phase One SOPs. Secondly, if you were to have a look at the MKN website, a list of SOPs last updated on 6 July shows that supermarkets, hypermarkets and departmental stores are allowed to open from 8am to 8pm.
What do you think of the reopening of these stores? Let us know in the comments section!
