Driving can be exhausting, even over short distances, especially with constant traffic. A woman in Penang recently turned to social media to seek a driver, but sparked backlash over the measly pay she was offering.

She is only willing to pay RM60 per month.

Yes, you read that right. That’s NOT RM60 per trip or per day, but the total salary for an entire month of driving.

In her viral Threads post, the woman said she was looking for a driver to send her to work in George Town and back home to Sungai Nibong, Penang. If hired, the driver is expected to fetch her from home at 7 AM every Monday to Friday, and be ready to send her home at 6 PM.

According to Google Maps, the trip from Sungai Nibong to George Town is roughly 11 kilometres.

“She’s probably still living in the ’70s”

The position has not been filled, and unsurprisingly, baffled social media users flooded her comment section to weigh in on the absurd remuneration offered.

“She’s still living in the ’70s. It’s 2026, Grandma, you’re probably senile.”

“Would’ve been better if it were RM60 per day.”

“It costs me RM400 a month to send my kids to school.”

“Might as well just take the bus, apply for the membership card for only RM10, with free renewals every month. Save yourself the RM60.”

The woman, however, has not commented further on her hiring as the post has been taken down. What do you think would be the ideal price for a personal chauffeur in this day and age?
