Previously, we shared how investigations by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) found that Global Ikhwan Services and Business Holdings Sdn Bhd (GISBH) had never paid their relevant taxes, which prompted netizens to bash the Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) over their oversight spanning several years.
The director of a local events and talent company, who took to X (formerly Twitter) to express his grievances, was among those who questioned LHDN’s inaction against GISBH.
Expressed grievances after his company was ‘randomly’ selected by LHDN for audit review
In a viral X post with over 220,000 views and 4,300 likes, @chihohoho said that while GISBH never got found out after not paying their taxes for years, his company was ‘randomly’ selected by LHDN for audit review twice in just 3 years.
He added that he had to fork out RM700 for the audit review despite LHDN not finding anything amiss with his company.
@chihohoho then sarcastically said that maybe LHDN’s action on his company was due to him being Chinese.
He asserted,
“GISBH never paid tax and never got found out for years. Meanwhile, LHDN ‘randomly’ selected my events and talent company for audit review TWICE in 3 years.”
“Found nothing, but I had to pay my auditors. RM700 down the drain. Maybe because the company’s director is Chinese lah,” he explained.
In the replies, @chihohoho noted that his sarcastic Chinese comment had irked many but asserted that most people understood that the real problem was the ‘doors’ that LHDN chose not to knock or don’t know off.
Malaysians disagree with the company director associating LHDN’s action with race
Accordingly, many Malaysians in the replies didn’t agree with @chihohoho associating LHDN’s inaction with race, saying that the Federal Agency under the Finance Ministry doesn’t care about one’s race.
One commenter said that LHDN also ‘knocked’ on his company, and he’s a Malay. Another commenter echoed the same sentiment, saying that it’s not about one’s race but about the ‘connections’ one has.
Besides that, one commenter took it a step further and advised @chihohoho not to play the race card, as many Malay companies were also ‘targeted’ by LHDN, with some even going bankrupt as a result of penalties.
