“Someone who harms animals is a danger to people”

The Stray Animal Foundation Malaysia (SAFM) has called for an investigation into what they described as “a disturbing case” in Ipoh, Perak.

“SAFM strongly condemns the cruel incident in Ipoh where a pet dog was allegedly beaten to death by its owner’s child,” the group said in a statement.

They added that the suspect’s mother was seen trying to stop him, but he refused and continued attacking the poor animal.

“Acts of cruelty like this are deeply worrying. Someone who can harm animals so brutally could also be a danger to people.”

SAFM is urging DVS to take swift action

SAFM is also urging anyone who witnessed the incident to file a report at the nearest police station and alert the Department of Veterinary Services (DVS).

They stressed that the case should fall under Section 30 of the Animal Welfare Act 2015, which carries a fine of between RM20,000 and RM100,000, up to three years in jail, or both.

“We urge DVS to act quickly and firmly against the culprit, so justice is served and it’s clear that animal cruelty has no place in this country.”
