Don’t drink and drive. Unfortunately, some people still have their hands on the wheels after drinking and a Malaysian recently learned his lesson after spending a night behind bars.
Ivan took to his Facebook account and shared an unforgettable night after he decided to drive under the influence of alcohol. A night before his birthday on June 15, Ivan and his friends celebrated by visiting V Sing at Sri Petaling, one of the infamous karaoke clubs around that area. And as you expected, alcohol was definitely part of the celebration.
His initial plan was to take a Grab ride but soon after he was reminded of how tough (and expensive) it could be to hitch a ride nowadays, so he opted to drive instead. When the celebration came to an end, he checked on Waze to see if there were any roadblocks on his way back home.
“I wanted to get home quickly as I was tired,” he added.
He took another route to avoid the police but it was to no avail, as he unfortunately encountered one. Despite this, based on his past experience, the police had never checked on him despite driving after drinking. However, this very night was not his lucky night.
Police station, here we go!
As he approached the road block, he was asked to step down from his car to perform an alcohol test on the breath analyser, which sealed his fate.
“The police asked me to drive to the station and that was when I realised, I have been arrested,” he expressed.
When he was at the police station, he was cuffed with the others as they formed a line – Ivan did not feel great AT ALL.
“I cried at the station out of fear and embarrassment. The regret, the torture of trying to stay awake, all of it contributed to it.”
He spent the night in jail before being cuffed again at 8am and brought to court at 2pm.
“Why didn’t I try to settle it?”
Some people may wonder why did Ivan not try to ‘settle’ it with the police and in response to that, he gave three possible reasons why he did not do so:
- The effect of the alcohol impaired his judgment.
- The need to fork out money for the ‘settlement.’
- His previous success in passing through roadblocks unscathed.
“Maybe, the police were godsent to avoid a possible accident,” Ivan added.
He ended his post by reminding others NOT to drink and drive, as well as revealing his intention to cut off alcohol from his life.
“I’ve drunk a lot and there are more negatives, than positives, anyway.”
We’re certainly glad that Ivan learnt his lesson before it was too late. We would also like to remind fellow readers that while it’s not wrong to consume alcohol, driving under its influence, regardless of how confident you are may just bring more harm than help.
Stay safe, and stay responsible!
